About Our Church
The Bible tells of the early Christians meeting together to encourage each other and learn more about God's love for us. The Newark Church was formed in 1961 with the same purpose in mind. Deeply rooted in Bible study and the desire to serve our community, the church also founded and operated Aletheia School and Child Care from 1976 to 2010.
We are a group of imperfect people who have been changed by God's love. We worship together, work together, help each other and try to love each other and the world as God has loved us.
Melissa's Story
Newark Church of Christ makes me so happy and full of joy. I truly feel like I belong here. I started out as a Yard Sale shopper and then asked to be a volunteer. Soon after, I was baptized and became a member of the church.
Ryan's Story
I grew up in this church. I was a baby and a toddler running around these halls and so the Newark church of Christ holds a special place in my heart.
I’ve recently started leading some of the youth and teaching in Bible class which has given me great purpose and fulfillment. In each person in that building every Sunday you can feel the honor, the love, and the respect that each of them have towards each other and towards God.
So to sum up why I keep coming to Newark Church of Christ is because they love God and they love others and you can feel it when you’re in the building. It is such a blessing to be around and I don’t take it for granted.
Bryan's Story
I'm so happy with my church home! After many years at another denomination church I decided to change my church. It took a couple of years and much searching and visiting before I finally found the Newark Church of Christ. I am so glad I found this church, it is exactly what I was looking for in a church, I'm sorry it took so long! One of the important offerings for me was baptism. Other churches that I visited always seemed like they wanted me to sign up for some type of classes and commit to that church for some length of time before I could get baptized. Well, not Newark Church of Christ! As long as I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior I could get baptized almost immediately! I definitely took advantage of that! Newark Church of Christ has a congregation that is Christ centered and is kind, caring, loving, dedicated, loves shared food experiences and of course is Bible based. Come check us out.
Hutton's Story
I went to college without knowing the Lord. During COVID-19, I first heard the gospel online. I then searched “evidence for God” and learned from philosophers, strong arguments and reasons for God. I then gave up atheism and became interested in spiritual things, and became a philosophy major. But it wasn’t until several campus Christian groups reached out to me and began teaching me the Bible that my life truly started to change.
I witnessed the passion people had for God, their desire to share His message, and their love for one another in genuine community. Through worship, service, and fellowship, I saw people delighting in Jesus. This awakened my understanding of the Christian faith and gave me hope and joy in this dark world unlike anything I had known before. I gained people I could wrestle with big philosophical and theological questions alongside and lean on through the challenges of college life. I am currently involved with Blue Hens for Christ at Newark Church of Christ. (Read more of Hutton's story on the Campus Ministry page.)
